Pioneering frozen dough company Europastry to distribute its products by bicycle
Through the Nodriza project, Europastry is due to begin distributing its products by electric bicycle in the country’s main city centres.
Europastry, a national leader and the world’s fourth biggest frozen dough company, has just launched the Nodriza Project, an innovative system for distributing products by electric bicycle which will be implemented in the country’s main city centres, a further demonstration of the company’s commitment to sustainable transport, as exemplified recently by the use of natural gas fuelled vehicles and megatrucks.
As Mariano Pérez, Europastry’s Operations Manager, says “the Nodriza Project is pioneering in our sector and confirms Europastry’s commitment to innovation in all areas of the company. This local distribution system will allow us to ensure delivery to customers in city centres and comply with new urban regulations in a sustainable, innovative and efficient way”.
Central distribution hubs will be created to supply the electric bicycles and ensure efficient product delivery to urban areas that are harder to reach. This will improve rider productivity, allowing CO2 emissions to be cut by 37 tonnes and annual fuel consumption to be reduced by 14,400 litres.
The Nodriza Project will also contribute to reducing traffic in city centres, while at the same time supplying a greater number of customers in a shorter time. The bicycles used to distribute the products are electric and fitted with a storage box with a capacity of just over one cubic metre, designed to ensure the product is kept cool.
The system is currently being piloted in Barcelona and by March we hope to increase the fleet to six bicycles, distributing all around Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, subsequently extending the distribution service to Eixample as well. Later in the year, a second phase of the Nodriza Project will be launched to supply customers in Madrid and Valencia city centres. We hope to then expand the project to the main city centres of Spain and the other countries where Europastry operates.
