Europastry launches the Dots brand to compete with
Panrico’s Donuts in distribution
Cinco Días - June 2007
Europastry, the pastry and frozen bread manufacturer
wants to compete with Panrico’s Donuts in the
distribution chains. The company, which is controlled
by the Gallés family, presented yesterday its
new Dots brand, which it will introduce in the distribution
network.
The company, which owns the Fripan trademark, predicts
a sales turnover in 2007 of more than 300 million
euros. This would mean a 12% sales increase with respect
to 2006 and anticipates a gross operating profit (Ebitda)
of 45 million. The company is third in its sector
in Europe with regards sales turnover and carries
out 15% of its sales outside Spain.
Among the countries where their products are distributed
is U.S.A., Mexico and Japan. Nevertheless, the objective
is "to be concentrated in the south of Europe",
indicated Jordi Gallés.
75% of the shares of Europastry are currently in
the hands of the Gallés family and the remaining
25% belongs to the food products group Vallcompanys.
Gallés assures that following the departure
of several investment companies such as Ibersuizas
in 2003, there are no plans at present regarding the
arrival of new shareholders in the company.
Among its forecasts for 2007, Europastry plans to
invest more than 35 million Euros with the objective
of extending its logistic and productive capabilities.
Part of this investment will be destined to the construction
of a refrigerated warehouse in Rubi (Barcelona) and
to a new bread line in Vallmoll (Tarragona). Europastry
has 10 production centres in Spain and Portugal.
