Europastry closes 2019 with solid growth thanks to innovation and international development
Europastry closes 2019 with a 16% increase in sales and strong numbers in innovation, employability and sustainability. The company registers a R&D&I investment level in excess of €118m and also continues with its commitment to ensuring 100% renewable energy.
Europastry, the frozen bakery dough specialist, closed 2019 with a turnover of €851m, 16.6% up on the previous year, consolidating its position as one of the world’s leading companies in its sector.
The company, which has sites in Barcelona, Oldenzaal, New York and Lisbon, based its strong growth on its commitment to innovation and its strategy in international markets, which now account for 40% of group turnover (€339m).
In the words of Jordi Gallés, Europastry’s Executive President, ‘Our goal is not to be the biggest company in the sector, but to be the one that most quickly adapts to the needs of its customers. We are bakers and in each one of the regions where we are present we adapt to local needs and local tastes. For example, in 2019 we successfully increased our “Saint Honoré” range of rustic bread, our “Sophie” range of premium butter-based pastries, and our “Euroclassic” range of brioches.
A STRONG COMMITTMENT TO INNOVATION
In 2019, Europastry invested €118m in R&D&I activities, mainly in Sarral (Tarragona), New Brunswick (New Jersey) and Paterna (Valencia). The resulting boost in sales directly led to 635 new jobs, bringing Europastry’s current workforce up to 5174 people.
Moreover, the company’s focus on R&D&I has allowed it to launch 400 new products, expand its premium butter-based pastry ranges and its Saint Honoré organic bread range, develop its Dots range of products with more added value, enlarge its Cristallino range of crispy bread, and consolidate its “Euroclassic” brioches, especially in the United States.
In relation to healthy food, Europastry remains strongly committed to 100% natural products and the use of local, sustainable raw materials.
A MAJOR COMMITMENT TO TAKING CARE OF THE PLANET
With respect to the environment, last year Europastry pledged to use 100% green energy at its production plants, accentuating its commitment to responsible consumption.
Additionally, continuous improvement at its plants and in its logistics operations, with a sustainable fleet that includes lorries that run on natural gas, has resulted in a 6% reduction in the company’s global carbon footprint.
Europastry sees its growth as the natural result of realising its desire to be a leading specialist in the baked goods industry. In this vein, the company has closed yet another year in which it has reinvented the culture of baking, using tradition as its philosopher’s stone and starting point to create new ways of doing things that are in line with the needs of today’s consumers.
We are bakers.
